During the 2015-2016 school year, the faculty and staff at Dove Elementary began their pursuit to become an authorized IB World School, which encourages both personal and academic achievement by challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development.  In May of 2016, Dove was accepted as a candidate school in the IB program.  Since being accepted, the teachers and staff have been hard at work fulfilling the requirements for authorization as an IB Primary Years Programme.

Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

According to IB, the Primary Years Programme prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. This focus aligns with the elements of LEAD 2021 and the GCISD Portrait of a Graduate.

Throughout the two year process, the teachers have gradually increased the number of transdisciplinary themes taught during the school year to the required six: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How We Organize Ourselves, How the World Works, and Sharing the Planet.  The teachers are involved in rigorous planning to align these IB units with the state of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.  Please check back to see the full Program of Inquiry taught here at Dove.
